Newark Mayor Discusses Moral Moment in Interview
In a recent interview with ABC News, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka expressed that he wouldn’t attend protests at the city’s ice facility to face arrest. He emphasized the significance of this moment, drawing parallels to past struggles against injustice, stating, “It was when Jim Crow, all faiths, elected officials, community activists came together to dismantle a harmful system marked by inequality.”
When host Kira Phillips remarked on the Democrats’ apparent desperation to confront Trump, suggesting their tactics might be off base, Baraka responded, “What can I say? We are indeed at a moral crossroads. I didn’t attend just to get arrested; I came to support a press conference aimed at addressing and eliminating this dangerous, inhumane system of inequality. We can either ignore the issues or take action.”
He also noted, “If people choose to protest, there won’t be accountability for those actions.”
