U.S. Responds to Pakistan’s Queries on Ceasefire Talks
During a U.S. State Department briefing, a Pakistani journalist faced a quick shut down when he attempted to ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi about his stance on peace talks between India and Pakistan. The reporter predicted President Donald Trump’s potential role as a peace broker who could facilitate a ceasefire between the two nations, suggesting that such efforts were not embraced by India.
“Pakistan appreciates President Trump’s initiatives for a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. They believe he could be a candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize for resolving the Kashmir issue,” the journalist stated.
However, U.S. officials avoided engaging with these claims, reiterating that their priority is a ceasefire. “That’s what we’re pleased to see. Our focus remains on maintaining that ceasefire,” said Tommy Piggott. He emphasized the importance of direct communication between the two nuclear nations, urging them to seek peaceful resolutions.
While Trump has stated that his administration played a role in establishing the ceasefire, India contended that its Director of Military Operations communicated with his Pakistani counterpart calling for an immediate truce due to Pakistan’s urgent circumstances following an Indian military strike.
Trump’s Aspirations
Trump has expressed a belief that he could earn the Nobel Peace Prize by addressing the enduring conflict with India, referring to himself as a “peace superintendent.” He characterized himself as a peacemaker and a dealmaker, showcasing his desire to bring about peace and resolve disputes.
Attempts to engage further on the topic of U.S. support for India using Israeli-made drones in operations were met with caution. The journalist queried whether Trump had issues with such military support. Trump’s vision is to foster connections among Jews, Muslims, and Christians, but he acknowledged that the use of Israeli drones “could complicate relations between Pakistan and Israel.”
U.S. officials reiterated that their prime concern is maintaining “ceasefires” and fostering “direct communication between political entities.” They maintained that Trump is genuinely interested in resolving global conflicts.
Despite reports of Pakistan utilizing Chinese-made missiles, Turkish drones, and long-range rockets against India, officials noted attempts by Pakistan to shift focus to the discussion of Israeli drones in Operation Sindore.
