Democrats mock Trump over ‘Qatar-a-lago’

Democrats troll Trump over 'Qatar-a-lago'

Democrats are set to showcase a banner reading “Qatar a Lago” on Wednesday, following President Trump’s announcement that he would accept a $400 million jet from the Qatari government.

Concerns regarding the safety and ethics of the president accepting foreign gifts have been raised by Democrats, political operatives, and some Republicans.

“His corruption is an insult to millions of Americans who are trying to make ends meet,” stated Ken Martin, Chair of the Democratic National Committee, in a Wednesday announcement.

“This highlights what foreign dictators already understand: Trump has no allegiance to the American people, our national security, or the Constitution. His loyalty lies only with his wealth and other billionaires,” Martin added. “Whether catering to a billionaire domestically or a foreign government, Trump seems willing to prioritize profits over American working families.”

The Sky Banner, which aims to mock gifts, will be visible for four hours from 11 AM to 3 PM EST near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach, Florida.

In response, White House spokesman Harrison Fields remarked, “For a party that claims to care about carbon emissions, this absurd stunt contradicts their stated values.”

The Constitution requires Congressional approval for accepting gifts from foreign entities. However, Trump has not sought such permission regarding the jet. This development follows his family’s business agreeing to establish a multi-billion dollar golf course in a Middle Eastern nation.

Throughout his first term, Trump has breached rules concerning foreign contributions on multiple occasions. The approach Congress will take regarding the acceptance of the jet from Qatar remains uncertain, especially as the president previously dismissed the notion that it would be “silly” to decline.
