Clooney’s Unexpected Cold Shoulder at Fundraiser
During a high-profile fundraiser in 2024, President George Clooney, of all people, found himself taken aback. Clooney, who co-hosted the event, apparently ignored the president, which raised eyebrows.
The fundraiser, held on June 15th, featured notable figures like Julia Roberts and Barack Obama and successfully raised $28 million for the Biden campaign. Guests snapped photos, while late-night host Jimmy Kimmel had the honor of facilitating a Q&A session with Obama and President Biden.
However, mere weeks later, Clooney did an about-face, penning an op-ed for The New York Times, suggesting that the president should resign. In that piece titled “I Love Joe Biden. But we need a new candidate,” the actor remarked that Biden was “not the same as he was in 2010.”
Clooney further mentioned that he and others were openly discussing Biden’s observable decline.
Interestingly, a new book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’s Alex Thompson reveals the details behind Clooney’s notable reaction to his encounter with Biden.
As reported, Biden had just flown out from the G7 Summit in Apulia, Italy, before arriving at the fundraiser. When they interacted, Clooney noticed that Biden appeared to have aged significantly, almost as if a decade had passed since their last meeting at the White House in 2022, where he had received a Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award.
A source noted, “It felt like seeing someone who wasn’t alive.” Clooney approached Biden, who only managed to say, “Thank you for being here,” to which Clooney responded, “Hello, President.” When Clooney inquired about Biden’s trip, the president’s vague “it’s great” response left a lot to be desired.
It was clear that Clooney was deeply unsettled by Biden’s condition, a sentiment shared by others present. Biden seemed to struggle mentally during the event, which many viewed as a glaring sign of decline.
Some commentators, like Fandom Pulse editor John F. Trent, have expressed concerns about those attempting to shield the president from accountability. Trent remarked, “Anyone can see that Joe Biden’s cognitive abilities have faded.” Such observations have sparked dialogue on the nature of presidential duties and responsibilities.
Clooney, for his part, has emphasized the importance of speaking out when necessary. During a CNN interview, he stated, “It’s a citizen’s duty… freedom of speech means you can’t demand it and also say, ‘I can’t say anything bad about me.'” He concluded with a clear sentiment: “Even if you believe it, you have to stand up.”
