Oswaldo Cabrera from the Yankees starts consultations with doctors as surgery may be ahead.

Seattle – Oswald Cabrera is back in New York and has begun consultations with doctors, but several factors remain before he makes a decision about surgery.

The Yankees utility player suffered a broken ankle during a dramatic moment on Monday night at T-Mobile Park. He returned home on Tuesday and saw his first ankle specialist Wednesday morning, where he also had an MRI done.

That said, Cabrera is looking to seek multiple opinions from different doctors, as noted by manager Aaron Boone on Wednesday.

Boone mentioned on Tuesday that surgery was a possibility, perhaps as soon as Thursday, but he couldn’t predict when exactly it would happen.

If Cabrera does undergo surgery, the degree of ligament damage and the complexity of the fracture will play a significant role in determining whether he can return to play this season.

“I think everything is on the table until we hear from all the specialists,” Boone shared on Wednesday morning. “And if surgery is needed, understanding the situation will give us a clearer timeline.”
