Celtics fans might have to wait a while to see Jason Tatum back on the court, but he has a message for those who witnessed Boston’s 127-102 win in Game 5.
After suffering an Achilles tendon injury during Monday’s Game 4 loss, Tatum underwent surgery. Unfortunately, he’s projected to miss the entire 2025-26 season.
During the TNT broadcast, analyst Reggie Miller shared that he had been texting with Tatum and recently received a note he felt should be shared with viewers.
“I’m devastated about this and I appreciate all the love and support from everyone… This injury does not define me, and I can’t wait to return to Celtic Green to show you why,” he conveyed through Miller.
It was anticipated that Tatum’s absence would be significant for the Celtics, yet they managed to push for Game 6 with an impressive victory on Wednesday.
The injury happened as Tatum pursued a loose ball late in Game 4, collapsing on the Madison Square Garden floor after taking a step with his right foot.
Medical staff attended to him amid visible pain, and he was eventually removed from the court in a wheelchair.

Tatum posted photos on his Instagram after the surgery, showing himself recovering in the hospital. In the caption, he expressed gratitude for the support he has received.
Celtics coach Joe Matzla mentioned before Game 5 that Tatum had sent a message to the team, though the details weren’t disclosed.
Game 6 is scheduled for this Friday in New York.
