Knicks supporters dismissed their team’s loss in Game 5 against the Boston Celtics.
“Forget Boston,” declared Rick Haddad, 18, from Brooklyn, while standing outside the venue. “It’s the worst place in America. The worst people, the worst vibe, the worst team.”
His friend, Edward Dweck, chimed in, criticizing the Celtics’ arena. “This isn’t a real garden. I’ve never heard of TD Garden. It’s just Madison Square Garden and some plants!”
Despite the Knicks’ 127-102 loss, the fans maintained their spirit, with Brooklyn’s supporters hoping for a turnaround in the ongoing series, which currently stands at 3-2 in favor of New York.
“You guys aren’t paying attention,” Kevin Sher told nearby Celtics fans. “The real game is happening. It’s a must-win for us at home!”
“It’s like a formula—get overconfident, and then we hit back hard,” continued Shah from Bronxville, now living in Ohio. “Every time they get cocky, they get a dose of reality.”
Even Mayor Eric Adams added his two cents about the loss, sending out a tweet saying, “Buck Foston.”
Another Knicks fan, David G., was heard shouting “Knicks in six!” as people filtered out after the game. “It’s fine, we’re still good,” he remarked. “Yeah, I’m getting some backlash, but I don’t mind.” Some Celtics fans yelled back at him with insults, while others tried to dismiss the Knicks supporters.
A group of girls wearing Knicks jerseys faced the ire of angry Boston fans who shouted for them to leave.
Meanwhile, back in New York, fans were looking forward to the next game. “Jaylen Brown thinks he’s all that,” one shouted. “He’s not even the best player on his team; Jason Tatum is.” They were hopeful for the Knicks to take the series.
The series moves back to New York for Game 6 on Friday night, where the Knicks will aim to defeat the Celtics and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
“I have no love for Boston. It’s a lousy city,” stated Damion Jones, 30, from the Bronx.
Liam Walker, a Hoboken resident, predicted a wild scene if the Knicks win Game 5 on Friday. “I can just picture it—more people packing the Garden. It would be like a street party!”
