Rory McIlroy, the PGA champion, shrugged off accusations from fellow golfer Bryson DeChambeau, who reportedly avoided him during the Masters Tournament’s final round.
In the last round on Sunday, both McIlroy and DeChambeau started at the same tee. DeChambeau took the lead multiple times, but McIlroy consistently caught up and ultimately secured the coveted green jacket.
DeChambeau now claims that after a handshake at the beginning of the round, McIlroy kept his distance.
There’s some speculation about McIlroy’s feelings toward DeChambeau, especially since McIlroy is loyal to the PGA Tour, while DeChambeau supports Liv Golf.
However, McIlroy seems unfazed by the discourse, framing it as a simple business matter.
“I don’t really know what he was expecting,” McIlroy remarked regarding DeChambeau’s assertion. “I mean, we’re in the middle of the Masters! I’m not trying to be his best friend.”
He further mentioned his sole focus was on performing well in his game.
“Everyone has different approaches to the game… I was concentrating on what I needed to do. It wasn’t personal against him.”
