Mexican Influencer Killed During Live Stream
In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old Mexican social media influencer, Valeria Marquez, was shot and killed while live streaming on TikTok. The attack occurred at a beauty salon in Jalisco, Guadalajara, where a man entered under the guise of delivering gifts, according to state prosecutors.
At the time of the shooting, Marquez was streaming from her Flower Beauty Lounge Salon. A short clip of the incident was shared on social media, showing her reacting moments before the violence. Just before the sound was muted, she acknowledged someone was coming.
Moments later, she appeared to clutch her chest, collapsing on the table as gunfire was heard. The video ended with what looked like someone picking up a phone, providing a chilling glimpse of the events.
During the live stream, Marquez expressed concern about a visitor who didn’t bring an expensive gift, indicating her apprehension about the situation.
According to reports, Marquez sustained gunshot wounds to her chest and head and was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooter reportedly arrived on a motorcycle, falsely claiming to deliver a present.
Marquez had a following of nearly 200,000 on Instagram and TikTok, where she regularly posted content related to beauty and lifestyle.
The police have launched an investigation into her murder under specific protocols for gender-related crimes. According to prosecutors in Jalisco, this classification can include factors such as violence and publicly degrading treatment of victims.
Details regarding the suspect’s identity remain undisclosed. Mexico is facing a significant challenge with gender-based violence, currently holding the fourth-highest murder rate in Latin America and the Caribbean, with recent figures indicating 1.3 deaths per 100,000 women in 2023. Jalisco itself ranks sixth among Mexican states, with 906 recorded murders since President Claudia Sheinbaum took office in October 2024.
