During a segment on CNN’s “Situation Room” that aired on Wednesday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) questioned whether former President Joe Biden’s decisions were leading to a decline in trust among voters regarding the Democratic Party, stating, “we’re not looking back.”
Co-host Wolf Blitzer prompted discussion about a new book from CNN’s Jake Tupper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, which claims to outline the Biden administration’s struggles. He asked if the party has gone to great lengths to conceal Biden’s condition from the public.
Jeffries responded, “I can’t comment on the specifics between George Clooney and President Biden since I wasn’t present. What I can say is that we haven’t looked back; we’re focused on the future.”
Blitzer then noted, “You had interactions with President Biden during his last day in office.”
Jeffries said, “In my conversation representing the House Democratic Caucus on that final day, I shared my views on what I believed was best for the party at that time.”
Pamela Brown interjected, “Senator Jeffries, you mention moving forward, but past events shape future outcomes. Can voters trust Democrats, especially as President Biden prepares to run again?”
Jeffries acknowledged, “That’s an important question about voter trust in Democrats. They have won significant special elections since Trump took office, including notable wins in Iowa, New York, and Pennsylvania. Surprises have come from incumbents in Omaha, suggesting that voters continue to place their trust in Democrats this year, rejecting the extremism associated with MAGA.”
