More than two dozen undocumented immigrants taken into custody at construction sites in Florida

Recently, Homeland Security Investigation Tampa, along with Eromiami and the Florida Highway Safety Motor Vehicle Department (FLHSMV), apprehended over 20 undocumented immigrants at a construction site in Florida.

“Breaking! @hsitampa @eromiami @flhsmv have detained more than 20 illegal immigrants (some previously deported) at a construction site in Wildwood, Florida during a workplace enforcement operation!” HSI Tampa reported, sharing a police video from the scene.

Authorities informed that the undocumented individuals are from Mexico, Guatemala, and Honduras.

“And the mission continues…” remarked Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) while sharing the update.

This announcement followed HSI Tampa’s indication that construction firms in one of the nation’s fastest-growing areas are assessing whether they are employing undocumented workers in violation of federal laws.

Continuing his message, DeSantis noted that Florida is poised to take further action on immigration matters this week. A press release from May 12 stated that Florida “has more state law enforcement officers than any other state in the country,” and highlighted that Florida’s Highway Patrol troopers are also designated as special Deputy US Marshals.

“Florida is at the forefront of immigration enforcement and is prepared to do more,” DeSantis added, underscoring the state’s initiatives to provide new detention facilities and its ongoing efforts to enhance its immigration enforcement capabilities.

The previous Trump administration had also focused heavily on deportation, showcasing illegal immigrants alongside their criminal histories on the White House lawn.

Additionally, the Trump administration offered options for undocumented immigrants to self-deport voluntarily, including support for commercial flights for those willing to leave. A plan unveiled by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) included a $1,000 incentive for individuals who could provide evidence of their exit.

A CBS poll from April revealed that Trump’s deportation policies retain significant public support, with 56% of respondents favoring programs aimed at detecting and deporting immigrants in the U.S.
