The footage indicates that a driver stopped their car and a homeless woman was subsequently set on fire. Surveillance cameras captured the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Jacqueline Popeyeborough, parking next to a homeless camp on April 26 in South Sacramento.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, Popeyeborough exited her vehicle and began an argument with the 49-year-old homeless victim. Reports suggest that she then threw a flammable liquid, igniting the woman.
While bystanders tried to extinguish the flames, Popeyeborough allegedly kicked the victim, who was severely burned. The woman suffered burns covering about one-third of her body, including her face, arms, torso, and back.
Following the attack, the homeless woman was rushed to the hospital, where she was intubated for several days and unable to give a statement to the authorities.
Eventually, the victim identified Popeyeborough as her attacker. Popeyeborough is being held on $400,000 bail on charges related to the assault. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has not yet commented on the situation.
