A bronze statue of Melania Trump, the former First Lady, has been stolen from Slovenia, her homeland.
The sizable sculpture, which was fixed to a tree stump in a field near her hometown of Sevnica, went missing on Tuesday, according to reports from Agence France-Press.
Authorities mentioned that the life-size statue was anchored at its base.
The theft was reported on May 13th, prompting police to visit the scene and launch an investigation, as detailed by a police spokesperson on Thursday.
This sculpture was designed by American conceptual artist Brad Downey and was created after a similar wooden statue was destroyed by arson in 2020.
Downey expressed his disappointment, stating he “is a bit sad that it’s gone.”
He also speculated that the theft might be linked to the upcoming elections involving Donald Trump, though he admitted uncertainty about the motives.
Melania Trump was born in Novomesto in 1970 but was raised in Sevnica while Slovenia was part of the former Yugoslavia.
