Brian Coberger’s Defense Claims New Suspect in Idaho Murder Case
Brian Coberger, the suspect in the quadruple murder of University of Idaho students, is set to disclose another individual who suggests that Coberger’s defense team may actually be the ones responsible for the killings that took place in November 2022.
On Thursday, Coberger appeared in Ada County, Idaho, for what could be one of his final court sessions before his capital murder trial, scheduled for August.
During the hearing, Judge Stephen Hippler mentioned that he believed the defense had a role in the events leading to the stabbings in Moscow, Idaho.
Coberger’s lawyers have until May 23 to present additional evidence. Judge Hippler expressed concerns, noting that the defense’s materials so far only meet a “pretty positive” standard of acceptability.
The judge directed the defense to present evidence that he considers credible. However, the documents submitted by Coberger’s attorneys remain confidential, leaving it unclear whether any of this evidence will see the light of day when the trial commences in August, depending on the judge’s ruling regarding their validity.
If found guilty, Coberger could potentially face execution by firing squad. He faces four counts of first-degree murder and felony robbery linked to the stabbings of Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves, both 21 years old, on November 13, 2022.
