Police Have Apparently Started a Criminal Investigation Into Smokey Robinson

Investigation Launched into Smokey Robinson Over Assault Allegations

Authorities have reportedly begun a criminal investigation involving Motown icon Smokey Robinson following accusations of rape and sexual assault from four former housekeepers.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office is looking into these claims, which come just a week after a victim filed a $50 million civil lawsuit against Robinson, citing incidents dating back to 2014. Robinson’s attorney has denied the allegations, according to reports.

In a statement released on Thursday, the LASD mentioned, “The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Victims Department is actively investigating allegations of crimes involving William Robinson, known as ‘Smokey Robinson.’ This investigation is in its early stages, and we have no further comments at this time.”

In the civil suit, the woman has accused Robinson’s lawyer, John Harris, of stating that Robinson committed acts of “sexual battery, attack, false imprisonment, gender violence, and the creation of a hostile work environment.”

Harris claimed that Robinson would supposedly invite Jane Doe #1 into his bedroom, saying, “After taking a shower, he would come out of the bathroom and force sex upon her against her will.”

According to the lawyer, “He sexually assaulted and raped her in this manner seven times. She finally quit in February 2024 because she could no longer endure these violations.”

Harris further alleged that the woman had previously shared these claims due to her immigration status.

Reports indicate that Robinson’s attorney, Christopher Frost, said a police report was filed after the civil suit. As a result, the LASD now feels obligated to look into the matter.

“We believe that Mr. Robinson did nothing wrong, and this appears to be a desperate attempt to sway public opinion and create a media spectacle,” Frost stated. “The records will ultimately show that this is nothing more than a fabricated lawsuit.”

Robinson, a celebrated artist known for hits like “Being with You,” “One Heartbeat,” and “Just To See Her,” has won a Grammy Award for best male R&B vocal performance. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, following an introduction by Daryl Hall and John Oates.
