The rivalry in the WNBA between rising stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese has taken a more intense turn recently.
During Saturday’s season-opening game featuring their teams, the Fever and the Empty, Clark’s frustrations bubbled over when she committed a hard foul on Reese.
As Reese went for an offensive rebound following a missed shot by her teammate Rebecca Allen in the third quarter, Clark pushed her to the floor, preventing Reese from getting her attempt off.
After reviewing the incident, Clark received an astonishing penalty, and both players ended up being issued technical fouls.
Reese was able to make one of two free throws once the situation settled down.
In a notable moment, Reese tried to confront Clark as she was leaving the court.
Last season, Clark—who is the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer in Division 1—received 66 out of 67 votes for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award, with Reese, a former LSU standout, grabbing the only remaining vote.
