On Saturday, former President Trump criticized his predecessor. Audio revealed that President Biden had trouble recalling details during a 2023 interview concerning documents found at his home, as he spoke with advisor Robert Huar.
Trump seized on this, hinting at Biden’s reliance on an autopen to handle his responsibilities.
“Those who are linked to the ‘autopen’ seem eager to create a larger scandal,” Trump stated, sharing on his platform. He also reiterated claims about the 2020 election, suggesting it was not legitimate. “Many people know the truth, yet the radical left Democrats have waged an unprecedented campaign of denial,” he said.
Trump’s comments came after Axios released audio from the interview where Biden struggled with recollections about pivotal moments in his past, including his vice presidency and personal tragedies.
Though the special advisor found that Biden had “deliberately” kept classified documents, they suggested he was more of an “elderly man with memory issues” than a criminal. No charges were filed against him, and while a transcript of the conversation was made public, the Justice Department resisted demands for the audio release.
Trump remarked that the audio release was a matter for Attorney General Pam Bondy.
He also took aim at lawmakers investigating the January 6, 2021 Capitol attack, referring to them as politically motivated and claiming they had erased evidence during their inquiries.
“It all began with James Comey, and [former President] Obama noted that a confused Joe Biden was involved,” Trump claimed. “They even spied on my campaign. Those who managed the autopen are just getting started,” he added.
He ended his commentary by suggesting that a significant fight was ahead.
Just before taking office, Biden granted pardons to several individuals linked to the January 6 committee, including prominent Trump critics. In March, Trump challenged the legitimacy of Biden’s pardons, asserting that Biden wasn’t even aware of them.
Earlier this month, Trump dismissed accusations about his mental fitness, calling them absurd.
Biden’s cognitive abilities have become a contentious issue as he seeks reelection, especially after a derailed debate with Trump last June, which led to pressure from some Democrats for him to step back. He ultimately withdrew from the race, endorsing former Vice President Harris instead.
