This is Scottie’s to lose.
But, you know, anything can happen on a major-championship Sunday. It’s just been three years since Justin Thomas pulled off a surprise win from seven back, and there are still plenty of big players around who could capitalize if the world number one falters. It’s worth noting that it was Mito Pereira leading into the final round back in 2022, and today, it’s Scheffler who has taken command. Just last night, he dominated both his opponents and the notoriously tricky closing holes at Quail Hollow with some remarkable golf. Still, you never quite know how it’ll pan out. Here’s how the leaderboard stood at the end of the third round:
- -11: Scottie Scheffler
- -8: Alex Noren
- -7: Davis Riley, JT Poston
- -6: Jon Rahm, Kim Si-woo, Jhonattan Vegas
- -5: Keegan Bradley, Tony Finau, Bryson DeChambeau, Matthieu Pavon, Matt Fitzpatrick
… and here are the tee times (all BST).

Leader Scottie Scheffler tees off.
If he feels any nerves, they’re certainly not showing. The crowd is huge for the Texas native, and he smoothly navigates a fade around the trees, landing in a great position. His playing partner today, Alex Noren, also makes a strong opening, splitting the fairway without any sign of hesitation. Bryson DeChambeau, on the other hand, is starting quietly, still at -5 while trying to find his rhythm.
Matt Fitzpatrick is in the mix too.
Realistically, it might be tough for him, but he’s not giving up easily. After a couple of bogeys, he nailed two long birdie putts in a row to get back to even. Meanwhile, Jon Rahm is just trying to play consistently and starts off with a par, while Kim Si-woo loses a stroke. It’s anyone’s game as we gear up for the final tee-off.
- -11: Scheffler
- -8: Noren
- -7: Riley, Poston
- -6: Griffin (8), Rahm (1)
- -5: English (15), Scott (4), Fitzpatrick (4), Finau (2), DeChambeau (2), Vegas (1), Kim (1)
Harris English is also showing up strong.
The Georgian, 35, is racking up birdies on holes 11, 12, 14, and 15, bringing him to -5. He has several top-10 finishes in major championships, and while he currently stands fourth, there’s still much to be played.
Matthieu Pavon missed an opportunity.
His birdie attempt slipped away on the first hole, and then a double bogey followed on the second. He’s now at -3. Keegan Bradley, the 2011 champion, and his partner Jhonattan Vegas are both struggling too, sitting at -4 and -5, respectively.
Ben Griffin is back on track.
A birdie on the seventh hole puts him at -6 overall in the championship. He has raised the stakes, pushing the leaderboard further. It’s his first time making the cut, and he could be in for a top-ten finish, which would be impressive.
Rory McIlroy had a week that didn’t quite meet expectations.
Opening with a 74, he showcased better form with a 69 on Friday. It’s unfortunate to see someone with such promise leave the course early, but that’s just how golf goes.
Matt Fitzpatrick’s chances seem slim.
After a costly mistake on the first hole, he lost ground quickly. With limited holes left, he’s just focused on finishing strong.
Pressure is on for Scheffler’s chasers.
If there’s any hope of catching him, a strong start is necessary. Ben Griffin has started showing potential with birdies on holes two, three, and five, now at -3, while Matthieu Pavon, who had been close, started strong with an approach from 180 yards to six feet but couldn’t capitalize on it.
Wrapping up the 107th PGA Championship.
Someone is going to need to make a move to catch Scheffler. The best morning starter was Sam Burns, who shot a 67, while Xander Schauffele finished his title defense with a 68. They are at -2 and -1 respectively. With the wind picking up and several pins in favorable positions, anything is still possible.
