Pro-Trump Candidate Moves on to Next Round of Polish Presidential Election

Polish Presidential Election: Karol Nawrocki Gains Momentum

Karol Nawrocki, a candidate who openly backs Trump, has emerged from relative obscurity to potentially secure a spot in the second round of the Polish presidential election following a solid performance in the initial voting.

A historian and former leader of the Karol Nowrocky Institute, Nawrocki has notably narrowed the gap with his main competitor, Warsaw Mayor Rafau Trzaskowski, who has previously run for president.

As per exit polls by the TVN24 broadcaster IPSOS, Nawrocki garnered 29.1% of the votes, while Trzaskowski received 30.8%. Trzaskowski represents Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s Globalist Civic Platform Party, and the second-round elections are slated for June 1st.

Nawrocki’s support has surged from being several points behind Trzaskowski, but he faces a challenging road ahead, particularly because centrists and left-wing voters may tactically rally against him.

This kind of voting strategy has historically prevented candidates like Marine Le Pen in France from gaining significant power. Regardless, Nawrocki expressed confidence after the exit polls were released, stating, “We will win these elections. We have made up our minds and decided for this. It all ends with our common victory, the victory of Poland.”

He urged conservative and populist supporters, including those from the Right Rights Union Party, to stand behind him to block Tusk’s globalist coalition from seizing full control of the government.

Contrasting with parliamentary systems in other European nations, such as Germany where the presidency holds a more ceremonial position, the Polish presidency wields significant power, especially the ability to veto legislation.

The current parliament, led by Tusk’s coalition, is somewhat restrained by the conservative presidency of Andrzej Duda. For a considerable time, Duda’s administration limited the influence of the Judiciary (PIS), who previously held power but are now backing Nawrocki.

Nawrocki was relatively unknown until he gained support from Jarosław Kaczyński, a co-founder of the PIS. Throughout his campaign, he has portrayed himself as a pro-Christian and traditionalist figure opposing the progressive agenda of Trzaskowski.

However, he now faces scrutiny following reports from Polish media that questioned his property ownership. Contrary to what he previously stated, it’s been revealed that he owns two apartments. Nawrocki and his allies assert that this leak was orchestrated by security services to undermine his campaign.

Much like Romanian populist George Simion, Nawrocki has adopted a Trump-like persona, joining Simion at a rally where attendees chanted “Donald Trump.”

Recently, Nawrocki claimed to have met Trump in the Oval Office, vowing to be a pro-Christian and pro-Trump president if he wins.

In response to a tight vote outcome, Prime Minister Tusk, characterized as a globalist and EU critic, made an urgent appeal to supporters.
