Reports indicate that Meghan Markle’s friendship with Edward Enninful, the former British editor-in-chief of Vogue, ended abruptly after a disagreement over his portrayal of her for the magazine’s cover.
Enninful had intended to feature the Duchess of Sussex on the cover of British Vogue in September 2022, which was also expected to coincide with keynote speeches at the One Young World Summit in Manchester.
However, their relationship soured after they clashed on how the magazine would present Markle’s philanthropic efforts, according to a report.
Following a heated discussion, the planned cover was quickly scrapped.
A source relayed that Markle and her team had anticipated either a printed or digital cover but felt disappointed when Enninful couldn’t meet those expectations, pointing out that he already had a different cover lined up for that month.
Ultimately, Enninful chose to give the cover to Canadian model Linda Evangelista instead.
Meanwhile, the American edition of Vogue highlighted Markle’s friends, including tennis star Serena Williams.
Insiders from Condé Nast suggested that Enninful’s decision to feature other celebrities contributed to the fallout with Markle, especially since she had moved to the U.S. after stepping back from royal duties in 2020.
There were claims that the conflict wasn’t about how Enninful introduced Markle or her philanthropic work.
Sources noted that both Markle and Enninful, who left British Vogue in February, have moved on from the friendship.
Despite the situation, it appears their communications have remained cordial, as they exchanged birthday messages and flowers over the past year.
Markle had been approached by Vogue on several occasions since marrying Prince Harry in 2018.
