A well-known potato chip brand has initiated a voluntary recall due to potential salmonella contamination.
Utz Quality Foods, part of Utz Brands based in Pennsylvania, is recalling select Zapps and Dirty potato chips, linked to concerns regarding baby formula.
The recalled chips contain condiments with milk powder from California Dairy Co., which might be affected by Salmonella. The Food and Drug Administration mentioned in its recall notice.
According to the company, the specific batch of condiments tested negative for Salmonella prior to being used, but they chose to recall the chips “out of an abundance of caution.”
So far, there haven’t been any reported illnesses connected to the recalled items, yet the FDA is advising consumers to refrain from eating these products. They recommend disposing of the recalled items or reaching out to Utz Customer Care for a refund.
Salmonella contamination can lead to salmonellosis, one of the more common types of bacterial food poisoning. Symptoms often include diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever, which can occur from 6 hours to 6 days after consuming contaminated food. Typically, the illness lasts around 4 to 7 days.
Utz has recalled limited amounts of Zapp’s and Dirty brand chips distributed in retail locations across the country.
