Joe Douglas Returns to Eagles in Senior Scouting Role
A year after a rocky conclusion to his relationship with Eagles general manager Howie Roseman, Joe Douglas is once again teaming up with his former boss.
Reports indicate that Douglas, who previously served as the Jets’ general manager, is rejoining the Eagles in a senior scouting capacity. Before taking the reins with the Jets, he held the position of vice president of player personnel with the Eagles from 2016 to 2019.
Interestingly, there seems to be a sort of trade-off between the Eagles and the Jets regarding pass rushers during this offseason.
After the Eagles secured Bryce Huff from the Jets during free agency, Douglas promptly dealt a third-round pick in 2026 for the standout pass rusher Haason Reddick, a move that Roseman seems to have strategically planned.
Huff, however, struggled for playing time. He only registered 2.5 sacks over 12 games and didn’t see any action during the Super Bowl.
In comparison, the Jets had a challenging start to their season, a struggle that could be traced back to Douglas’s unclear communication regarding a new contract request.
During his tenure with the Eagles, Douglas played a vital role in assembling the roster that clinched the Super Bowl in 2017, skillfully navigating free agency and player deals. This success led him to his position with the Jets, where he first worked under head coach Adam Gase before hiring Robert Saleh as his successor.
Under Douglas, the Jets struggled overall, ending with a record of 32-68 and missing the playoffs throughout his six-year span. Nevertheless, his tenure was not without notable successes, as he drafted talents like Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, Jermaine Johnson, and Breece Hall with his top picks in the 2022 draft.
Douglas was let go last November, just as his contract was nearing its end, following the dismissal of Saleh. Shortly after, he was spotted chatting with Roseman during an Eagles home game.
The Philadelphia Inquirer was the first to report on Douglas’s return to the Eagles.
