Midday stock movements: UnitedHealth Group, Tesla, Alibaba, and others

Market Update: Notable Stock Movements

Several companies are making waves in midday trading. UnitedHealth’s shares have dropped nearly 7% as investors reacted to a significant 23% decline last week and shifted focus to other stocks. The health insurance firm has also suspended its guidance for 2025 and announced the resignation of its CEO, who is reportedly under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Meanwhile, social media stocks, including Reddit, saw a decline of over 4%. This comes after Wells Fargo adjusted its rating from overweight to equal weight, warning that disruptions in search traffic on Reddit might persist as Google enhances its search capabilities with AI.

Both Tesla and Palantir, favorites among retail investors, experienced drops of more than 3%. This reflects a broader trend where key tech stocks led the market losses on Monday.

In another development, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals saw its shares decrease by about 1%. This follows an announcement that the company would pay $256 million to acquire most assets from the genetic data company 23andMe, which is undergoing bankruptcy proceedings. Notably, this transaction does not include 23andMe’s Telehealth arm, Lemonaid Health.

Bath & Body Works’ shares also fell by 1% after announcing the impending resignation of CEO Gina Boswell. The retailer has tapped former Nike executive Daniel Heaff to take her place.

In international news, Alibaba’s U.S. stock dipped 1% following a report from the New York Times that raised issues regarding Apple’s intention to utilize Alibaba’s AI technology for its upcoming Chinese iPhone release.

On a more positive note, TXNM Energy’s shares surged 7% after the company agreed to be acquired by Blackstone’s infrastructure unit. TXNM Energy shareholders are set to receive $61.25 in cash for each share as part of this acquisition.
