Rumors About Juan Soto’s Travel Plans Dismissed
Recently, an MLB insider refuted allegations that Juan Soto was using a private jet this season. This followed a miscommunication from WFAN’s morning show, which mistakenly claimed Soto made numerous comments during the subway series finale on Sunday night.
To clarify, it was confirmed that Soto will not be flying separately from his Mets teammates on a private jet. Instead, he will fly with the team. Reportedly, his contract does not include any arrangements for a private jet for himself or his family.
This clarification stems from remarks made during WFAN’s morning show hosted by Esiason and Greg Giannotti.
Esiason expressed his disbelief about the rumors, stating, “Juan Soto has been under a lot of scrutiny lately. He can smile and acknowledge the crowd’s reactions, but let’s be honest, it hasn’t been a great weekend for him.” He added that perhaps Soto and his family could take a private jet to their next game in Boston.
The conversation also touched on how Soto’s supposed perks might set him apart from his teammates. Esiason hinted at how unwanted attention could arise from his contract details, which he thought could alienate Soto from the rest of the players.
The issue with Esiason’s comments seems to lie in a mix-up regarding what was actually said by Karl Ravech. Ravech had noted that the Soto deal includes family-friendly benefits, like charter flights for family members to attend games.
A report from December indicated that Soto’s contract, worth 15 years and $765 million, came with benefits such as a luxury suite for home games, premium seats, and security. Though it included family services, it did not specifically mention airplane benefits.
Moreover, Giannotti claimed that Ravech said Soto had “pleaded” not to be mic’d during Sunday’s game. However, Labeck clarified that the term “beg” was not used; instead, Soto simply opted out shortly before the game, which created some miscommunication in reporting.
Sources revealed that Soto’s decision to change his mind before the game is not uncommon in the league. Players often have fluctuating preferences regarding microphones and media interactions.
