Arson Incident Involving Tesla in Manhattan
A homeless individual allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a Tesla Cybertruck parked in a luxury Manhattan neighborhood early Monday morning, causing a fire, according to police reports.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Dwayne Barr, reportedly started by dumping trash onto the vehicle’s hood around 1:15 a.m. on East 58th Avenue near Second Avenue in Sutton Place. He subsequently placed what seemed to be a Molotov cocktail on the rear tires, igniting flames, and tossed another into the vehicle itself, as law enforcement explained.
Fortunately, a bystander with a fire extinguisher managed to put out the flames, preventing any injuries.
After a search of the area, police arrested Barr, charging him with arson, reckless endangerment, and possession of a weapon. It’s noted that Barr didn’t have any prior arrests.
The motive behind targeting the Tesla remains unclear. Notably, this incident adds to a troubling trend of crimes aimed at Tesla vehicles and owners nationwide, raising questions about broader societal issues.
In a seemingly unrelated series of events, just last month, a 46-year-old woman named Natasha Cohen was charged with hate crimes in Brooklyn after vandalizing a parked Tesla with hate slogans and allegedly tossing a garbage bag onto it.
Additionally, on March 27, two individuals were filmed carving hateful messages onto another Tesla Cybertruck in a separate incident in Brooklyn.
