Hillary Clinton Warns About Trump’s Potential Third Term
Hillary Clinton, the former Secretary of State, has raised concerns over President Donald Trump’s ambition to pursue a third term, which is prohibited by the Constitution. She voiced that such a move could set a precedent for other former presidents to consider similar paths.
In a recent appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Trump dismissed any speculation about him seeking that third term. Earlier this month, Clinton participated in an interview at New York’s 92nd Street Y, where she discussed her latest book. Towards the end, the conversation turned to the rumors about Trump’s intentions regarding a third presidential run.
“Listen to what Trump is saying. He telegraphs everything, and often when he criticizes something, he’s actually reflecting what he’s already done or planning to do,” she remarked. Clinton mentioned that based on the information she’s gathered, and also from her friends in the psychological field, there’s much to unpack about Trump’s rhetoric. She explained that when he hints at others possibly running for a third term, it might be a nod to right-wing think tanks that are exploring ways to make it happen, backed by a segment of his radical supporters. “If it can’t be done legally, that’s not a deterrent for them,” she added.
Clinton concluded with a rather striking suggestion: “I think you have to take it all seriously. The best response is for Barack and Bill to run. I mean, who would you choose for a third term?” She clearly expressed her discomfort with the notion, calling it “nutty” and “embarrassing,” but emphasized that it needs to be confronted.
