Surge in Immigration Arrests in Maine
In April, the U.S. Border Patrol in Maine detained 113 undocumented immigrants, marking the highest monthly total in nearly 24 years, according to officials.
This increase in arrests has prompted authorities to relocate 29 migrants to different areas of the country for processing. Notably, Cumberland and Hancock counties in Maine are designated as sanctuary regions, which may have impacted the enforcement actions taken.
“Maine’s border patrol agents work around the clock to ensure safety at our borders. Anyone attempting to cross illegally will face arrest,” an official stated.
