Scarborough Calls for Trump to Praise Biden
During a segment in March 2024, Joe Scarborough, co-host of “Morning Joe,” expressed intense frustration over President Trump not referring to Joe Biden as the “best Biden ever,” citing Biden’s intellectual and analytical abilities. This moment highlights an ongoing trend in corporate media to downplay concerns about Biden’s cognitive decline before a significant debate against Trump in June.
Political analyst Mark Halperin remarked on Scarborough’s comments, suggesting they may have been somewhat misleading, especially given that there were indications Biden wasn’t performing at his best on certain days. Despite this, Scarborough received support from his MSNBC colleagues. Scarborough claimed he had never witnessed these supposed off days of Biden’s.
Halperin, however, pointed out situations that conflict with Scarborough’s claims, such as Biden mistakenly calling deceased Indiana Rep. Jackie Wololski a month after her death. Scarborough did acknowledge that Biden tripped over words but then quickly mentioned Trump multiple times in a brief span.
“He tripped, yeah,” Scarborough stated. “But I’ve heard the narrative around Trump, and I have been critical of him. I’ve come to understand Trump’s mental state better over time.” He also expressed that, while there had been moments of Biden stumbling, these didn’t stop him from effectively addressing significant issues.
Scarborough referenced a recent viral clip of Biden that raised alarms but maintained that his interactions with the former president during peak moments were what really mattered. He explained that he had spoken with people close to Biden, claiming that despite stumbles, Biden remained capable of grappling with critical matters.
While he mentioned that internal concerns about Biden’s ability to lead were rare, he did note that some Cabinet members felt uneasy about trusting him in high-stakes situations as his term progressed. Reports emerged indicating that by late 2022, Biden struggled with recalling his aides’ names consistently. Furthermore, there were accounts suggesting that his close circle was distancing themselves from him to obscure signs of his decline.
