Joe Scarborough Defends Biden Amid Criticism
On a broadcast in March 2024, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough faced off with former President Joe Biden regarding the latter’s capabilities, emphasizing his personal experiences with Biden. During a segment with Mark Halperin, Scarborough showcased a clip of himself, asserting that Biden is “far beyond cogent.”
“I’ve stated this for years; he’s a thoughtful person,” Scarborough mentioned. “But when I call him thoughtful, I mean that he’s improved intellectually over the past 50 years. Just start your tape now. If you can’t handle the truth, that’s on you. This version of Biden is the most capable I’ve seen.”
Halperin interjected, reflecting on the complexity of assessing Biden’s performance: “When you say ‘Best Biden’ without context, isn’t it misleading, especially on the days when he isn’t at his best?”
Scarborough maintained he hadn’t personally witnessed any of Biden’s poor days. He recounted numerous meetings with Biden and remarked that Biden’s insight into the Ukraine-Russia situation is more nuanced than many might realize.
Halperin challenged him, pointing out, “But you did see him address a deceased lawmaker in South Carolina.” He suggested there were significant moments showcasing Biden’s challenges, leading Scarborough to pivot the conversation toward Trump.
Scarborough noted that while Biden has stumbled at times, so have other politicians, including Trump. “I have a clearer understanding of Trump’s mental state than people might expect,” he added.
During a previous encounter in February 2024, Scarborough confronted former advisor Robert Hur regarding Biden’s difficulties with key memories, including those surrounding his son Beau’s death.
Scarborough, perplexed, stated, “I just find it random how some are interpreting this.” He also mentioned requesting Hur to retract parts of his report.
In a concluding thought, Scarborough remarked, “Are there some negative clips? Sure, but let’s keep them in the right context. It’s surprising how many focus solely on those rather than the bigger picture.” He emphasized the importance of not letting isolated incidents overshadow Biden’s ability to discuss critical issues.
On the topic of political trials, Scarborough speculated that Trump might want to face judgment if he runs again, highlighting the potential repercussions of past actions.
Recently, the audio from the Hur-Biden interview surfaced, with some claiming it showcased Biden’s moments of forgetfulness during their discussion.
