Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to testify on Wednesday afternoon before the House Appropriations Committee regarding the proposed budget for the State Department for 2026.
This week, Rubio has been advocating for the Trump administration’s approach to foreign policy in several hearings. Notably, he has been a key player in efforts to facilitate peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, as well as promoting a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.
The upcoming budget request from the State Department indicates a significant cut in federal support for international development. This decision follows a major reduction in the US international development agency by the Trump administration months ago.
Additionally, Rubio encountered rigorous questioning from former colleagues during his appearance before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Tuesday and the House Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday.
The Foreign Affairs Committee hearing is scheduled to begin at 2 PM EDT.
