Authorities report that a drunk driver collided with an elderly woman’s car after leaving a Minnesota bar, where he intended to race home to his wife.
Aloysius Kenneth Johnson, previously convicted of DUI, told police he had been out for drinks with his wife on Friday in Andover. However, he got behind the wheel of his Ford F-350 afterward, as mentioned in the criminal charges.
According to his wife, Johnson seemed to believe he was “trying to take down her house” when he accelerated.
In the crash, Alice Marie Stack, a 74-year-old woman, was extricated from the wreck but later succumbed to her injuries at the hospital, as reported by the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
Witnesses observed the driver fleeing the scene, stumbling as he headed into the woods.
Sheriff’s deputies later discovered Johnson, 48, nearby. He exhibited signs of intoxication—slurred speech, difficulty maintaining balance, and injuries to his body and face.
He admitted to drinking three or four drinks but claimed he couldn’t remember the crash itself, according to the police report.
Johnson’s wife arrived shortly after the incident, confirming that the truck belonged to him. She informed officers that he had been drinking vodka soda at the bar and initially intended to drive them home.
However, she recounted that he instead pursued her in his truck, driving erratically as he aimed for her house.
Johnson has a prior DUI conviction, though details about that incident weren’t provided.
He now faces a murder charge related to the incident involving the fatal crash while under the influence of alcohol.
His bail has been set at $400,000, or $200,000 under certain conditions, with his next court appearance scheduled for June 23.
