PGA Tour golfer Billy Horschel and his wife, Brittany, celebrated nine years of sobriety on Wednesday.
Since May 21, 2016, when he decided to get sober, Horschel, 38, has been candid about Brittany’s battle with alcoholism and her “surprising” transformation.
“Today marks nine years of sobriety for my wife, @britthorschel,” Horschel posted on X, sharing a video of himself discussing Brittany’s journey. “It’s incredible to witness the change over these years. I’m incredibly proud of her!”
Horschel remarked on how unexpected it was that Brittany found happiness as she embraced sobriety. “It’s about making it work, one day at a time—that’s really key,” he shared. “Seeing how joyful she is now is truly remarkable.”
He emphasized the importance of reaching out for help and taking that crucial first step, saying, “You need to say, ‘I’m tired of letting my addiction control me. I want to be sober.’ And remember, there are people ready to support you—you’re not alone.”
Brittany entered rehab for alcoholism in 2016, and she opened up about her struggles in a statement a year later, shortly after Horschel claimed victory at the 2017 AT&T Byron Nelson after winning against Jason Day.
“I’m an alcoholic,” Brittany stated in her message. “I’m not ashamed to admit it anymore. I’ve faced this with my family and friends, and it’s truly saved my life and my marriage.”
She now runs a blog titled “Simple Modern Mom.”
The couple, married since 2010, are parents to three young kids: Axel, Skyler, and Colbie. They first discussed their challenges with alcoholism during a joint interview on “Good Morning America” in June 2017.
