In Boston, Massachusetts, police have named a man involved in a road rage incident where a hatch was used to attack another person’s vehicle. The Boston Police Department reported that 27-year-old Andrew Opryan is facing charges for assault with a dangerous weapon and malicious destruction of property.
According to police, Opryan was reportedly pursuing another driver “at highway” speeds on May 16, leading that driver to crash their vehicle. After the collision, Opryan exited his car and allegedly assaulted the victim. Reports indicate he struck the victim’s automobile with a hatchet multiple times, shattering the windows and windshield.
Video footage released by the police shows a figure hitting a car and eventually colliding with a tree. A witness, Matt Silva, recounted the events, noting that the victim seemed completely unaware of why he was being pursued and appeared shocked by the aggressor’s actions.
Silva described a rather chaotic scene, stating, “As soon as he sticks his head out of the car and pulls out the key, a random guy from behind him starts shaking hatchets at him.” He remarked on the suspect’s furious demeanor, suggesting Opryan was not thinking clearly at the time.
Witness accounts suggest that Opryan not only chased the victim down the road but also onto the sidewalk, showcasing a level of aggression that raised concerns among bystanders.
