Trump Weighs Tariffs on European Union
On Friday morning, President Donald Trump indicated that he might impose hefty tariffs on the European Union, arguing it was necessary to end what he sees as trade tyranny.
In a post on True Social, he mentioned the possibility of a 50% tariff on imports from the EU to address the trade deficit faced by the U.S.
“If a product is made in the United States, there are no customs duties,” he asserted.
He continued by criticizing the EU, claiming that it was primarily designed to exploit American trade. The trade barriers, value-added taxes, and what he described as unjust financial practices and litigation against American companies have contributed to a staggering trade deficit exceeding $250 billion annually.
According to Trump, he feels that negotiations regarding trade with the EU “don’t go anywhere.”
“Thus, I am proposing a direct 50% tariff on the European Union starting June 1, 2025,” he stated. “If a product is constructed or manufactured in the U.S., there are no customs duties. Thank you for focusing on this issue!”
This situation is still developing and may evolve with more details forthcoming.
