Rockies Struggle with Disappointing Start in MLB Season
The Colorado Rockies have had a rough season, currently sitting at 8-42 after their latest defeat to the Philadelphia Phillies, which marked the end of a four-game series on Thursday. This dismal record represents the worst 50-game start in the history of modern MLB.
In their loss on Thursday, the Rockies were shut out 2-0, with Phillies pitcher Rangers Ares throwing for seven innings. This setback marks the Rockies’ seventh shutout of the season—a tough pill to swallow for any team.
At home, the Rockies have managed just a 5-20 record so far this season, which isn’t particularly promising. Comparatively, last season the Chicago White Sox set a record for the highest losses in modern MLB history by finishing 41-121. The current Rockies team is on track to eclipse that by potentially losing 136 games—a scenario that feels almost unfathomable.
Following Thursday’s game, they find themselves a staggering 23 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. It’s hard to comprehend how things have spiraled so far.
The Rockies are now in a position where they’ll have to scramble to improve, however, they’ve shown little sign of recovery. Meanwhile, the Phillies are riding high, having landed in the top spot of the NL East after a successful streak, winning seven consecutive games and 11 out of 12 on the road.
Looking ahead, the Phillies (32-18) will attempt to extend their winning ways against the Rockies (8-42) when they meet again on Friday. The Rockies will, honestly, need to regroup and come out strong when facing the New York Yankees, who are leading the American League East.
