At 76 years old, Joel has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a condition that affects his vision, hearing, and balance. According to Yale Medicine, this is considered a “very rare condition.”

In his statement, he expressed that, “This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to auditory, vision, and balance issues.” He mentioned that, under his doctor’s guidance, he is currently undergoing physical therapy and has been advised to take this recovery period seriously.
Joel also shared his gratitude for the support from his fans during this time, stating, “I look forward to being able to take the stage again. I am so sorry for letting the audience down, and thank you for understanding.”
