Divided Democrat David Hogg claims this congresswoman is ‘the kind of leader’ the party requires

On Friday, activist David Hogg praised Texas MP Jasmine Crockett, calling her an exemplary leader during an appearance on “The Breakfast Club” radio show.

“I really admire her. She’s incredible,” said Hogg, who is the vice-chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). He noted that many people appreciate leaders who are willing to confront issues directly, which he believes Crockett exemplifies.

Hogg acknowledged that Crockett has become known for her bold statements and actions, suggesting that she possesses the credibility that many seek in leadership.

“I think Jasmine represents the kind of leader we’re trying to uplift. She doesn’t seem to care what the Republican side has to say at all,” Hogg added.

Crockett, who is 44, has been a vocal critic of former President Trump since the 2024 election, labeling him a “dictator” and calling him the “enemy of the United States.” She has even gone so far as to question the legitimacy of his election.

In March, she made headlines by suggesting that the U.S. may not necessarily want to hold another election in 2028, and she remarked that a notorious MS-13 gang member was “far worse” than Trump.

She has also criticized Trump supporters, stating in a December interview that Hispanic voters who back Trump possess a “slavery mentality.”

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott recently accused Crockett of spreading hatred, following her reaction to his wheelchair use.

House GOP Conference Chair Lisa McClane shared a photo of Crockett at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which drew some commentary.

Crockett has been representing Texas’ 30th Congressional District since January 2023.

Hogg’s endorsement of Crockett comes at a time when Democratic Congressional leaders have dropped to a historic low approval rating of just 25%, as per recent Gallup polls.

Though he was elected as DNC vice-chairman in February, Hogg has faced scrutiny from within his party over plans to allocate $20 million to challenge long-serving Democratic incumbents in upcoming primaries.

Earlier this month, a DNC credentials panel decided to revoke the election of gun control activists, citing procedural issues. The full committee is expected to vote in June on whether to remove Hogg from his position and possibly restart the election process.

It’s notable that Hogg was a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School during the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida, where 17 individuals lost their lives and another 17 were injured in February 2018.
