Harris Calls Out Cooper in New Book
A new book discusses tensions between former Vice President Kamala Harris and CNN’s Anderson Cooper. It reveals that Harris referred to Cooper in a rather harsh manner after a particularly sensitive interview last year.
In “The Original Sinn,” by Jake Tupper and Alex Thompson, the authors recount how Harris felt frustrated after Cooper questioned President Biden’s performance in a crucial debate against a presidential rival. This was a moment that, well, didn’t reflect favorably on Biden.
“This motherf***er doesn’t treat me like the damn vice president of America,” Harris reportedly expressed to her colleagues.
The context of Harris’s frustration stemmed from Cooper’s probing about Biden’s cognitive abilities, a topic that had become increasingly alarming given his performance during that debate.
During the interview, Harris attempted to defend Biden’s mental acuity. However, Cooper pointed out that several Democrats had voiced their concerns regarding his capability.
“Some people said it was a disaster, others called it a train wreck. They were especially worried that Biden wouldn’t effectively counter Trump’s claims,” he mentioned.
Harris responded, “People can discuss style points, but ultimately, this election and the presidency need to focus on substance.”
Cooper quickly countered with a pointed remark about Biden’s noticeable decline: “Four years ago, when I talked about then-President Biden, he was a very different person. Is that true?”
“I understand your point from an hour and a half discussion,” Harris replied. “But I’m looking at three and a half years of historical performance.”
After the interview, it’s said that Harris was “visibly angry” and took the questions quite personally, according to the authors.
“Afterward, she was upset with Cooper. He was asking what many in the country were wondering, but she took it to heart,” the book explains.
The book also highlights how Biden’s team worked to minimize concerns about his mental decline, attempting to shield him from scrutiny.
In one instance, Biden’s mock debates were so troubling that aides struggled to hear him during sessions.
“One advisor even had to tell him to close his mouth when he wasn’t speaking,” the authors noted.
Biden’s aides often strived to limit video appearances to just a couple of minutes to avoid potential gaffes.
“When they needed to tape a five-minute video, the White House usually addressed it in one or two minutes,” the book stated.
“But even with those time constraints, Biden frequently stumbled over his words during those brief speaks.”
Currently, Biden is facing health challenges, having been diagnosed with “aggressive” prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
