Ohio Senator Calls for FBI Investigation into Terrorism Incident

Ohio Republican Senator Bernie Moreno has reached out to the FBI, urging them to thoroughly investigate the recent attack on a pro-Israel group in Boulder, Colorado. In his letter to FBI Director Kash Patel, Moreno emphasized that “Jewish Americans are under attack,” illustrating the alarming reality that this phrase has manifested in various forms across the country.

This correspondence follows an incident where a 45-year-old Egyptian national, Mohamed Sabri Soliman, was arrested after allegedly setting fire to victims who were peacefully gathered in support of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. Witnesses reported Soliman shouting phrases like “free Palestine” and using other anti-Israel slogans during the attack, which targeted individuals aged between 52 and 88.

After the incident, Moreno thanked the FBI for quickly classifying the violence as a “targeted terrorist attack.” He noted, “As a member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, it is my duty to investigate how this individual entered the country under the Biden administration.”

In his letter, Moreno requested the FBI to respond within 60 days regarding the suspect’s possible connections and the review process during his entry into the U.S. He inquired about the legitimacy of Soliman’s work permit and any asylum claims he might have made.

The FBI confirmed they are treating the attack as an act of terrorism, working alongside the Boulder Police Department to gather evidence and interview witnesses. They stated, “Our strength as a society comes from our shared values and our commitment to protecting each other, and attempts to divide us through fear and harm must not be tolerated.”

Additionally, a federal court application reported by a correspondent revealed that Soliman expressed a desire to target “Zionists” and had planned the attack for about a year. He initially entered the U.S. on a tourist visa during the Biden administration, subsequently applying for asylum and receiving permission to work, which expired in March.
