Dez Bryant Critiques NFL’s Pride Month Message
Dez Bryant, the former NFL player, found himself at odds with the league’s approach as he marked the beginning of Pride Month on Sunday. The NFL recently aired a 30-second video titled “What Football Is.”
The content of the video featured statements like “Soccer is gay,” “Football is lesbian,” and “Soccer is exciting,” among others. Bryant, who is recognized for his lengthy career with the Dallas Cowboys, expressed his discontent with the ad.
He remarked, “Soccer is gay. Soccer is odd. Soccer is trans… These are wild statements to excuse my stupidity,” posting his thoughts on social media.
His comments sparked a bit of a backlash, prompting him to defend his position. He pointed out that while there are openly gay players in the NFL, it feels as if the message is being pushed onto people, especially young ones. “Football is a real community like the gay community,” he asserted.
Meanwhile, several NFL teams took to social media on Sunday to share messages in honor of Pride Month, continuing the ongoing debate surrounding the acknowledgment of such celebrations in sports. Organizations like the Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Flyers have also faced controversies related to the topic in recent years.
