Carl Banks Defends Karl-Anthony Towns Amid Controversy

Giants icon Carl Banks recently addressed WFAN host Greg Giannotti, who criticized Knicks player Karl-Anthony Towns after the team lost in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals to the Pacers over the weekend.

During “Boomer and Gio” on Monday, Giannotti labeled Towns a “loser” and referred to him as “soft.” They even aired a graphic that read “Loser Cat!” which definitely ruffled some feathers.

Banks, a regular on another WFAN show before parting ways with the station in 2023, took issue with Giannotti’s comments. He tweeted, “This is really pathetic. Calling a man you’ve never met a ‘loser’ says more about you than it does about him. I’ve known Kat and his family since he was a child. There’s absolutely nothing about him that resembles a loser. Try to be a better person rather than broadcasting this ignorant nonsense.”

The response on social media has been mixed. Some users support Banks’ stance while others seem to agree with Giannotti’s characterization of Towns.

In a rather biting remark, Giannotti shot back at Banks, “I’m glad to hear from you, killer. You still owe $500 from an appearance I made for you in Pittsburgh in 2010,” which gave the exchange an amusing twist.

Towns’ performance has undoubtedly drawn attention, especially after the Knicks’ playoff exit, and he’s likely to remain a hot topic in New York radio for a while.

As for Banks, he’s clearly passionate about defending players he respects, which seems to resonate with a segment of the audience, while drawing criticism from another. It’s a classic case of sports debates sparking lively—if contentious—discussions among fans.
