Christine Cavallari feels confident about her choice to cut ties with her father, Dennis Cavallari, after he “crossed boundaries” with her three kids.
“Honestly, this might seem messy to some, but I think it’s the best choice I’ve ever made. It really separates my dad from my life,” she shared in an interview released on Monday.
“That weight has been lifted off me,” she added. “I don’t think I’ll ever miss him. I mean, I was in my mid-30s when this really hit me.”
The 38-year-old fashion designer has three children: daughter Saylor, 9, and sons Camden, 12, and Jackson, 11, with her ex-husband, Jay Cutler. They were married in 2013 and divorced in 2020.
Though she didn’t delve into the specifics of the situation, it’s clear she feels “happy” with her decision to distance herself, stating it was “something I wanted for a long time.”
She emphasized, “He crossed boundaries with my children,” mentioning that he hadn’t even apologized for the situation. “It felt like gaslighting to me. We don’t have time for that anymore. If someone brings negativity or hurt into your life, even if it’s family, what’s the point?”
It’s not the first occasion she’s expressed dissatisfaction with her father; during a December 2023 podcast episode of “Let’s Be Honest,” she referred to him as a “narcissist.”
“Once you start messing with my kids, that’s where I draw the line,” she insisted.
Christine stated she distanced herself from her father about two years ago, mentioning that she only recognized his narcissistic behavior in her adulthood. An incident involving her children ultimately prompted her to take this step.
“I’ve generally been tough and resilient,” she reflected. “I’ve dealt with my own troubles for years. But when it comes to my kids, I won’t accept that.”
