Bannon Critiques Graham’s Support for Ukraine
Steve Bannon, the former chief strategist at the White House, intensified his criticism of Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and fellow lawmakers over their backing of Ukraine in the ongoing conflict with Russia.
During an appearance on NewsNation’s “Cuomo,” Bannon argued that Graham was providing Ukrainians with “false hope” by meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky and suggesting U.S. support following a drone attack on Russian targets.
“We can’t have Lindsey Graham, especially Zelensky. They’ve pushed us close to World War III with a strike on Russia,” Bannon claimed to host Chris Cuomo.
His comments followed a recent call from a former Trump advisor for Graham to be jailed due to his pro-Ukrainian stance, with Cuomo pressing Bannon for more justification.
“I don’t get how you want to jail a senator simply because you disagree with him,” Cuomo remarked, suggesting that it sounded like a manifestation of deep-state influences.
Bannon responded, asserting, “What he’s doing just stirs the pot. It gives Ukrainians false hope.”
Cuomo countered, “But that’s not illegal.”
Supporters of Trump have echoed similar sentiments, warning that Graham’s actions mislead Ukrainians into thinking U.S. involvement is guaranteed.
Throughout the conversation, Cuomo probed Bannon on why he believes Graham should face jail time.
“So he might be wrong, but why do you suggest imprisoning him?” he asked.
Bannon replied, “Two options should be considered: revoke his passport so he can’t return, or if he does, don’t put him in prison,” while also noting, “The attack was bold.”
“It was impressive, but the issue is getting involved in a conflict that most Americans want no part of,” he added.
Cuomo acknowledged that he did not completely disagree with Bannon’s analysis but maintained, “You can’t imprison someone just because you dislike their views. That’s my main point. I’m not saying you’re wrong about the implications or the dangers involved.”
