A man was detained early Tuesday after trying to jump the wall at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. He claimed he wanted to “spread the gospel” and marry the president’s granddaughter, Kai Trump.
Anthony Thomas Reyes, 23, was arrested for attempting to gain unauthorized access to the property, as per booking records from the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office. Interestingly, this wasn’t his first attempt; he had previous run-ins with law enforcement over similar trespassing charges during the New Year’s holidays.
Reyes reportedly told officers that his intention was to marry Trump’s granddaughter in order to spread his religious beliefs. This prompted some eyebrow-raising reactions—it’s quite an unusual assertion, to say the least.
Initially, he faced trespassing charges and was given a bond of $1,000, but it was later increased to $50,000, according to the sheriff’s office. It’s worth noting that federal charges might also be on the horizon.
At the time of the incident, Trump was in Washington, D.C. The U.S. Secret Service stated that an alarm was triggered when Reyes attempted to breach the fence, leading to his immediate detainment by officials without any issues. Palm Beach police later charged him with trespassing.
This incident adds to a growing list of security situations at the former president’s properties, reflecting ongoing concerns about safety and unauthorized access. Reyes’ earlier encounters with police make one wonder about his motives, and whether they stem from a genuine belief or something else entirely.
