A Remarkable Story

In a touching twist of events, a newly graduated high school employee at Burger King hurried to work in his graduation robe, juggling emergency shifts while receiving generous rewards from the Burger King Scholarship Fund.

Mykale Baker, the 18-year-old in question, was awarded $10,000 by the Burger King Foundation after his heartwarming story caught the public’s attention. According to a spokesperson, this gesture was partly thanks to local mothers who noticed his unique attire while working.

Baker posed happily with a giant check during his shift at a Burger King in Dacula, Georgia. The memo on the check flagged it for the “Burger Kings Collers Program.”

Just days after his graduation from Mills Creek High School on May 21, instead of celebrating, Baker rushed to help his overwhelmed colleagues during a late-night shift.

A keen-eyed customer, Maria Mendoza, noticed him working in his graduation garb and bagging fries. Inspired, she shared a brief video on TikTok, which quickly garnered over 4.4 million views.

Mendoza subsequently initiated a fundraiser titled “From Burger King to College Dream,” aimed at honoring Baker’s work ethic and helping him with college expenses. As of early Wednesday, the campaign has raised more than $190,500 in donations.

Baker originally considered taking a gap year between high school and college due to financial difficulties. However, with the ongoing fundraising efforts, he’s now contemplating trade school.

“He wasn’t looking for recognition. He didn’t even realize his story had gone viral. But so many people were touched by his humility and dedication,” Mendoza expressed.

Moved by Baker’s “radiant joy” and respectful demeanor, Mendoza felt compelled to take action. “His dedication really struck a chord with me,” she noted, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to make a difference.

In a touching gesture, the Burger King Foundation also recognized Mendoza’s kindness, awarding her daughter, Daisy Chavez, $10,000 for her future studies.

Chavez, who plans to attend Georgia State University to pursue neuroscience, posed for photos with Baker, highlighting the connections formed through this story.

Mendoza expressed heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming support they received. “We are so grateful for the love and kindness shown to us. God is truly good,” she shared.
