Case against White House advisor Peter Navarro dismissed by Trump administration's Justice Department

Lawsuit Against Peter Navarro Dismissed

A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit against Peter Navarro, who served as a trade adviser during the Trump administration. The suit claimed he used private emails for government-related matters and made errors in handling presidential records.

Navarro, currently a senior trade and manufacturing counselor, is under investigation by the Biden administration’s Department of Justice. The lawsuit accused him of using at least one unofficial email account, specifically a Proton Mail account, for official communications.

The civil case alleged that Navarro failed to provide presidential records to the National Archives by utilizing informal email accounts.

This dismissal follows a request from the Trump-era Justice Department to close the case, filed in 2022. Interestingly, the joint application from both the Department of Justice and Navarro’s legal team did not clarify the reasoning behind waiving the case. It stated that each party would cover their own legal costs.

Navarro previously served four months in prison after being convicted for not cooperating with Congress regarding the January 6 Capitol attack investigation, maintaining that he had refused to testify.

Reports indicate that the Trump-led Justice Department is reconsidering Navarro’s conviction, and there could be an attempt to overturn it. This development appears to align with a wider trend of reassessing prosecutions against allies of Trump.

After his release from prison, Navarro appeared at the Republican National Convention, making a statement that suggested a politically charged atmosphere where he cautioned those who oppose Trump. He asserted, “If they can come for me, be careful if they can come to Donald Trump, they will come for you.”
