Trump Signs Memorandum on Biden’s Mental State Investigation
President Donald Trump signed a memorandum on Wednesday night, initiating an inquiry into the investigation of former President Joe Biden’s mental capabilities during his time in office. Concerns regarding Biden’s cognitive decline have surged among Democrats, particularly following the release of information from Jake Tupper and Alex Thompson’s book.
The memorandum calls for an examination of whether certain individuals misled the public about Biden’s mental health and possibly collaborated to misuse presidential authority. It also mandates a review of the various enforcement actions taken during Biden’s final year and the legitimacy of policy documents he signed using an autopen.
Prior to the 2020 election, Republicans had raised alarms about Biden’s mental fitness. While some Democrats continue to back him in light of these recent claims, others are starting to question his leadership and the issues he managed while in office.
A White House statement pointed out that Biden’s use of an autopen raises significant questions about the validity of his decisions, highlighting his reported “severe cognitive decline.” Despite what they term Biden’s cognitive shortcomings, the administration has produced over 1,200 presidential documents, appointed 235 federal judges, and granted more pardons than any previous administration, according to the statement.
In the last month of his presidency, Biden issued numerous pardons, including notable individuals criticized for their severe offenses. Tupper and Thompson’s book has shocked aides, to the extent that some speculated about Biden needing a wheelchair after the 2020 election.
Although Democrats initially rallied behind Biden as 2024 nominees, their support started to wane following a tumultuous debate involving Trump. Concerns about Biden’s potential to serve another term have been raised.
As worries grew, Democratic donors halted significant contributions until Biden clarified his candidacy. By July 21, he announced his withdrawal and endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s next candidate.
