DoorDash driver enters runway at Chicago's O'Hare Airport, revealing security issue

Food Delivery Incident at O’Hare Airport

Recently released video footage reveals a food delivery driver’s actions at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago last month, showcasing a breach of perimeter security without an immediate police response.

The video, obtained by Nexstar’s report, shows a red Hyundai Elantra parked close to United Airlines’ widebody jets at Terminal 1, on May 17. This incident raised concerns about airport security protocols.

A baggage handler did notice the driver and approached, but there was a significant delay, with a marked Chicago police vehicle taking nearly ten minutes to arrive. It’s unclear from the footage if any police or airport security personnel came to the scene on foot during that time.

Investigations highlighted that the driver had driven through a security gate at the southeast corner of O’Hare, traversing a substantial area of the airport without triggering any alarms or significant interruptions.

Interestingly, the driver seemed unaware of the violation. According to reports, he mentioned a lack of visible security personnel. Once police arrived, they found a food order receipt in his vehicle but chose not to charge him.

Interestingly, private security guards at the boundary checkpoints reported that they did not immediately communicate about the security breach. One guard noted that the driver’s behavior appeared odd but failed to contact the operations center or alert a supervisor about the incident.

In light of this event, the Chicago Department of Aviation’s leadership engaged with Lincoln Security to address the incident and brought the matter to the Transportation Security Bureau for further scrutiny.

As of now, a Doordash spokesperson has not clarified whether the driver is still active with the company.
