Concerns Raised Over Jean-Pierre’s New Book and Biden’s Health
On Thursday, Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy expressed skepticism about former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre’s ability to reconcile her past inaccuracies regarding President Joe Biden with her new book announcement.
Jean-Pierre revealed her upcoming book, titled “Independence,” set for release in October, indicating she might part ways with the Democratic Party due to perceived “betrayals” by Biden. As she re-emerged into the public eye, Doocy remarked on Fox & Friends that her history of misleading the press could be hard to shake off.
“This book is about her, but before Biden drops out, it seems like a last-ditch effort. After he steps down, she claimed the real issues were misconstrued. I told her before, ‘You can’t label things as misinformation just because you disagree with them,’” Doocy noted. He questioned how Jean-Pierre would now assert things were fine, despite her previous claims.
Doocy has consistently probed Jean-Pierre regarding Biden’s cognitive state, but the White House has dismissed concerns about his mental and physical health. In September 2023, he pressed her for clarification after Biden repeated a line he previously told Doocy, claiming he was “very clear” about his reasons for running for president.
Biden mistakenly identified French President Emmanuel Macron as former President François Mitterrand, who passed away in 1996, during a campaign event in February 2024.
After a dismal debate performance in June, Doocy confronted Jean-Pierre about Biden’s own admission that his brain was deteriorating. When she suggested he was merely joking, Doocy wondered if Biden’s medical team had avoided testing for conditions like Parkinson’s or dementia, which could interfere with his duties.
“Since February, Biden has only been tested for Parkinson’s or dementia, likely due to unfavorable results,” Doocy remarked.
In response, Jean-Pierre maintained that Biden’s health records were comprehensive and emphasized that decisions regarding his medical care were made by his medical team, not journalists.
Doocy pointed out that Biden’s personnel tended to escort him from public gatherings and even prepared note cards for press conferences to shield him from reporters. When Biden’s staff defended their protective measures, Jean-Pierre dismissed Doocy’s concerns as “silly.”
Throughout her tenure, Jean-Pierre has frequently assured the media that Biden is as alert and fit as ever, labeling any footage suggesting confusion as “cheap fake.” Even after contentious debate moments, she downplayed worries, asserting that there was no attempt to cover up the president’s health status.
