Elon Musk, the influential tech figure, hinted at a potential thaw in tensions with the White House late Thursday, following a social media clash involving President Trump.
This glimmer of peace came in response to a post by Bill Ackman, a prominent ally of Musk, who has previously sought to ease rising tensions. Musk replied to Ackman’s message with a “true” response, suggesting, “@RealdonaldTrump and @elonmusk should make peace for the interests of our great nation. We are much stronger when united.”
Earlier that day, Trump had publicly criticized Musk, especially due to his significant financial contributions to the opposing campaign. Tensions escalated, but reports from Politico indicated that aides from the White House were trying to facilitate a phone call between Musk and Trump in hopes of smoothing over the discord.
However, News Nation noted that by early Friday, no calls had been arranged, contradicting previous reports from the White House. The potential for reconciliation seems complicated by Musk’s previous criticisms of Trump, especially regarding sensitive topics tied to Epstein.
Despite Musk’s conciliatory comment, he still seemed unwilling to let go of past grievances. His pinned tweet on X included a poll about launching third-party candidates in the U.S. Just before 10 PM EDT, he made another post referencing Trump and Epstein, alongside discussions about his own history with ketamine.
In a later tweet at 9:21 PM EDT, he stated, “Nothing matters” if the U.S. faces division. This appeared to be a critique of a major legislative bill that recently passed, which was pivotal to Trump’s first-year agenda and had ignited conflict between the two.
